El presente curso abarcará con mayor profundidad las percepciones del proceso de conminución y de las herramientas y métodos prácticos de mejora del proceso que fueron introducidos en los cursos de Mine to Mill Avanzado. Serán dos días de curso intensivo de 6 horas, de 4 a 10 p.m. donde podrán tener la gran oportunidad de perfeccionar sus habilidades, con énfasis en chancado, molienda y clasificación, que podrán luego vincularlo con toda las oportunidades de la cadena del proceso minero que se enseñaron en los cursos de M2M Avanzado.
TEMARIO DEL CURSO
Los temas que incluiremos son los siguientes:
- Influencia de la variabilidad del mineral en el diseño del circuito y de la planta – el circuito integrado.
- Percepciones del movimiento de las partículas en los molinos.
- Transporte en los molinos: acumulación de pulpa, diseño de descarga.
- Procedimientos del diseño de revestimiento del molino y visión general de la evaluación.
- Recopilación y uso de datos de análisis para la optimización del circuito.
- Operación práctica de la chancadora.
- Alimentación de pre-chancado a los molinos SAG.
- El papel fundamental de la clasificación en la productividad del circuito.
- Control de proceso, lapso de tiempo para la interacción del índice de alimentación y la carga, curvas de molienda.
- Control del comportamiento dinámico del molino.
- Uso total de la capacidad del chancador de pebbles de reciclaje.
- Herramientas de molienda y chancado: relleno de molino online, monitoreo de revestimiento, control de la chancadora, control del ciclón.

Prof. Malcolm Powell
Director of Liner Design services, Comminution & Transportation Technologies Inc. & Comminution Reimagined ltd
Prof Powell has applied fundamental comminution research to design and process improvement on over 60 mines worldwide during 35 years at Mintek, UCT, and then as Professor of comminution at the JKMRC in Australia. His work is published in over 200 papers and has been presented in as many conferences worldwide. Malcolm collaborates extensively, with close compatriots on 5 continents forming the Global Comminution Collaborative (GCC) – providing an expert research and consulting base covering the full comminution process chain. Malcolm provides on-site experiential training and site reviews to empower mine staff to upgrade the productivity and their skills. This is supplemented with formal training workshops on liner design, comminution and Advanced Mine to Mill. Malcolm’s research vision is of integrated total process simulation as a tool for innovation – linking geology, mining, energy and size reduction, gangue rejection and recovery into flexible process design and process optimisation. Malcolm Runs three companies dedicated to advancing cutting edge technology into the mining industry, plus supervises research students.
Experience includes acting as an industry consultant called on by the major mining companies on 5 continents. Prof Powell’s industrial applications have delivered direct benefits to production revenue total in the hundreds of million Dollars.
Recent process reviews: In 2019 demonstrated and provided the technical pathway to increase production by between 10 and 20% on three mines (Las Bambas, Peru; New gold and Voisey’s bay, Canada). At the Barrick Cortez demonstrated a 16% increase in mill throughput capacity (Powell et al. AusIMM mill operators conference 2018 and SAG conference 2019), and again in 2020 for a new ore body. Anglo American Platinum Mogalakwena crushing circuit: capacity increased by 20% based on recommendations of a GCC review and simulations, worth about $100M per annum (Powell et al, SAG conference 2011). Increased mill throughput at Cadia of 10% over a period of liner life, translating to 3% over liner life, a value of over $20M per annum (Bird et al., SAG conference, 2011). Navachab Ball scats removal: a step change of 9% in mill throughput (Powell and Smit, SAG conference 2001), which drove an industry-wide upgrade to grinding ball quality in Southern Africa.
Liner design: Increases in liner life of over 50% on many mills, worth $0.3-1.5M per annum on single mills. Liner redesign Pustynnoye mine, Kahzakstahn: increased liner life by 50% and mill throughput by 20% (Powell et al, AusIMM.MillOps, 2018).
MillTraj liner design software: with over 200 licences with half the world liner suppliers the use of this software has propagated liner life and mill performance improvement worldwide.
Prof. Aubrey Mainza
Aubrey Mainza is a Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Cape Town (UCT). He has 18 years of collective experience in academia, research and industry. He is the Deputy Director and Head of Comminution and Classification Research in the Centre for Minerals Research, which is a large multi-disciplinary research centre. His research areas include comminution and classification and uses Discrete Element Method (DEM), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT) as tools in his modelling methods. He has participated in many local and international research projects and has worked on numerous comminution circuit design and optimisation projects. He is an active supervisor of postgraduate students and has published widely in the international mineral processing and aligned disciplines literature. Aubrey is on many advisory committees for international conferences. He is a founder member of PEPT Cape Town, a facility established in Cape Town for studying flow behaviour in different systems and for medical research. Aubrey has extensive teaching and industrial training experience from over 20 years of presenting industrial training courses.
Prof. Magnus Evertsson
Professor Magnus Evertsson is an expert in crusher design, modelling, and control with industrial applications worldwide. He holds a PhD in Machine and Vehicle Design, a Licentiate of Engineering, Machine and Vehicle Design, and a Master of Science in Material Science and Engineering. He has an extensive global collaboration network and has authored multiple peer-reviewed academic publications in his field of expertise. Professor Evertsson is the Founder and Chairman of Roctim AB (consulting spinoff from research work) and the Managing Director of CRS AB. Amongst other posts he currently holds, he is Professor of Machine Elements and Head of Division for Product Development, Department for Industrial and Materials Science at the Chalmers University of Technology. Previously, he has held the posts of Associate Professor in Machine Elements and Systems Applied Mechanics, Chalmers University of Technology (2006-2012); Head of Machine Element Group (Division for product development) (2003-present); Rock Processing Specialist, Crushing Technology, Sandvik Mining (2000-2010) and Construction and Process Development Specialist, Sabema Material AB (1997- 2000). Magnus has extensive teaching experience and has delivered a number of industrial courses with GCC members, including in Peru.
